What the lump-sum withdrawal payment would come to for your contribution history, computed from the Japan Pension Service's own published formula — including the part most people miss: 20.42% is withheld from the Employees' Pension portion before the money arrives, and claiming it back is a separate step.

Why this is an estimate, not a promise

The figures here come straight from the official tables — the National Pension amounts by fiscal year and the Employees' Pension payment-rate formula, both read from nenkin.go.jp and dated below. But the Japan Pension Service decides your actual payment from your recorded contribution history, which this page cannot see. Treat the result as what the formula says, bring your own numbers from a nenkin net record or your payslips, and expect the official determination to be the one that counts.

One number you may have heard is wrong on purpose here: the calculation still maxes out at 60 months. The rise to 96 months was legislated in June 2025 but has no start date — no cabinet order exists, and the official page still computes on 60. A claim that "8 years already counts from April 2026" is circulating, including through AI answers, and it is false.

At 10 years you qualify for an actual old-age pension and the lump sum no longer exists for you. Exemption and student-deferment months count toward the 10 years even though they are not paid months — check nenkin net if you are close.

The months covered through an employer's shakai hoken. For most engineers at Japanese companies this is all of their months. 0 if none.

Months of National Pension (国民年金) paid directly

Only months you paid yourself at city hall (between jobs, freelancing). Months under a partial exemption count fractionally — a half-exempt month counts as half a month. 0 if none.

Average standard remuneration (平均標準報酬額), ¥/month

Your monthly 標準報酬月額 averaged over the whole enrollment, with bonuses spread in. It is on your payslip stub, or exactly in a nenkin net record. An approximate figure in gives an approximate estimate out.
